THE STARTING LINE, 2024
120 x 90 x 7 cm
Acrylic, colored pencil
In “The Starting Line”, the repetitive act of re-tying a shoelace becomes a metaphor for self-reformation. When shoelaces are untied, people instinctively stop walking to tie them, pulling the knots tighter than before. Each pull of knots is an action of resilience, a tightening that resolves a moment of failure. Distorted, broken pieces of dark background represent emotional turmoil by encountering hurdles, while the vivid image of myself, looking further, captures the sense of springiness. This imagery simultaneously brings courage through strong, yet silent energy that sets each individual to a starting line, where a path of new possibilities opens.

AFTER THE OAK FOREST HAS THRIVED, 2025
40 x 55 cm
Acrylic Gouache
“After the Oak Forest Has Thrived” examines the seemingly futile squirrel's habit of burying acorns and then forgetting them. This process serves as a metaphor for the realization that wasted time contributes fundamentally to individual growth. While lost acorns appear meaningless at first, their contribution to the ecosystem ultimately becomes meaningful after the oak forest has thrived. This progression, from low-saturation to vivid color, expresses my personal journey, where time spent in Barcelona, initially considered wasted, eventually broadened my perspective on art.

STEP INSIDE, 2024
60 x 73 cm
Acrylic and shoelaces
“Step inside” is a work that explores the identity of my family through the shoes gathered at our front door. In Korean culture, people take off their shoes when entering a house, so they were always countless pairs belonging to our five family members. The warmth, harmony, and quiet greeting these shoes offered every time I return home are expressed through hand-sewn flowers on the background and shoelaces tied directly to the canvas. The cluster of shoes, so full that there was hardly a place to step, reflects the way my family filled every space within me with their warmth.
